Hype - it's the high-powered caffeine drink, the Red Bull that drives game sales, obsessive fanboyism, and sadly, many of the flame-fests you tend to see when it comes to game releases these days. A massive dose of hype is enough to either create a freight train of excitement for a game or cause that same train to derail off the tracks into a terribly awful (and very visible) explosion.
Just like caffeine, though, people still can't help but swallow the hype whole - and it sometimes screws with people's rational thought with its sugary, saccharine taste.
If you asked some of the obsessive folks who've followed the game for a while what got them excited about the game, I'm sure that a fair number of you would attribute it to an excitable British man with a penchant for enthusiasm and a perpetual child-like curiosity with the creation of a game based upon a well-loved IP.
